About Shiva in the brass tradition.
Shiva — also called Mahadeva, Shankara, or Bholenath — is the third deity of the Hindu trinity (Trimurti), responsible for destruction and transformation. In brass idol tradition, Shiva is most commonly depicted as the Shivling (a cylindrical form representing the infinite), seated in meditation on Mount Kailash, or as Nataraja (the cosmic dancer). Attributes include the trident (trishul), the damaru (drum), a snake around the neck, and the moon on his head.
Worship context.
Shiva is central to Mahashivratri (his greatest festival), daily abhishekam (ritual bathing of the Shivling), and Monday worship in Shaivite households. The brass Shivling is the most common home altar form — daily abhishekam with milk, water, honey, and yogurt is a centuries-old practice.
