The Science Behind Vastu Placement
Vastu Shastra — the ancient Indian science of spatial arrangement — prescribes specific directions for installing divine idols at home. Brass is considered one of the most auspicious metals in Vastu because it conducts positive energy efficiently.
Directional Guide for Idol Placement
- Ganesh Ji: North, East, or West. Never facing South. Place near entrance for protection.
- Lakshmi Ji: North or East. North is the direction of Kubera (wealth). Ideal for business premises.
- Shiva (Shivling): North or East. The Shivling's mouth should face North. Keep water vessel above.
- Radha Krishna: North-East or East. Brings harmony and joy. Ideal for living rooms.
- Hanuman Ji: South or South-East. Pacifies the negative energy of the South direction.
- Durga / Kali Mata: North-East. The Ishanya corner is most auspicious for Devi worship.
- Saraswati Ji: East. Direction of the Sun (knowledge). Ideal for study rooms.
General Vastu Rules
- Place idols on an elevated platform — never directly on the floor.
- Idols should face East or North so the worshipper faces East or North while praying.
- Avoid placing idols facing each other — this creates conflicting energies.
- The puja room should ideally be in the North-East zone of the home.
- Broken or damaged idols should be respectfully immersed in a river.
Why Brass is Preferred in Vastu
According to Vastu Shastra, idols made from Panchdhatu (five metals) or pure brass are most auspicious for worship. Brass does not rust, retains its sanctity over generations, and is easy to purify.
